The Inclusion Development Programme - Supporting Pupils on the Autistic Spectrum

The Inclusion Development Programme (IDP) is a four year CPD programme launched by National Strategies. The DVD sent to all schools last year contained materials to support staff to enhance quality first teaching for children and young people with dyslexia and speech, language and communication difficulties. This is the second year of the programme and a DVD for supporting pupils on the Autism Spectrum will be sent to all schools and settings via schools post. This is an interactive resource to support teachers, initial teacher trainees, teaching assistants, headteachers and leadership teams (including SENCOs) working with pupils on the autism spectrum.

The DVD contains 8 study units for use by teachers and support staff to develop their knowledge and confidence to challenge the barriers to learning experienced by children and young people on the autism spectrum. The IDP is intended to improve outcomes for pupils on the autism spectrum, increase knowledge and understanding amongst professionals and to share good practice.

In addition to the study units, written under the lead of staff at the University of Birmingham, there are self evaluation checklists and practical support materials. This is a highly useful suite of training materials which can be used individually by staff and schools or in groups or clusters. For more information on the IDP please email Judith Carter.
