National Award in Special Educational Needs Co-ordination
SENCOs who are new to post and those with 12 months or less experience as of September 2009 are required to complete the National Award in Special Educational Needs co-ordination. This represents 60 credits to a Masters degree and is currently fully funded by the TDA (including supply cover). New SENCOs and those with 12 months or less experience, have 3 years in which to complete this one year course. Details of training providers are available here.
If you are a SENCO with less than 12 months experience, or have recently appointed a new SENCO who will be required to complete this training. Please could you email your name and contact details to David Amis who will be establishing a database for use by Judith Carter Senior Adviser Inclusion LDD/SEN. The aim is to offer co-ordinated support for colleagues during the completion of this award. A practical based programme offering induction in to the SENCO role is available 'free' at the point of delivery to all new SENCOs. The first of three sessions is taking place on 25th November 1.30 - 4.00pm at the Norwich PDC.
SENCO Communication, Training and Development
A programme of termly half day information, training and development sessions are available to all SENCOs. These sessions are hosted by Judith Carter Senior Adviser Inclusion LDD/SEN within each Area, and are intended to provide an opportunity for national updates, as well as containing two development themes at each session. The dates for the 2009-10 sessions, along with details of the practical induction training programme for new SENCOs can be found by clicking here.
