Management Information Sheet
Norfolk Schools for the 21st Century
We are undertaking a wide-ranging consultation on a set of principles for future planning and delivery of schools and children's services for the 21st century. These principles are at the heart of our proposals for Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and the Primary Capital Programme (PCP) which will both help to transform teaching and learning over the coming years. They have been developed through discussions with groups of headteachers, advisers, officers and elected members. These principles will also help us determine what provision should look like for those areas covered by the Greater Norwich Joint Core Strategy and the Growth Point areas of King's Lynn and Thetford, but the principles will apply to all future school and children's services developments across Norfolk.
Copies of the consultation document are being sent to all schools via the school courier on 16 October, for distribution to all parents, members of staff and your governing body. The consultation document and online response form can also be accessed on the Internet, both on the Norfolk County Council site via the 'Your Norfolk Your Say' link on the front page and on the Children's Services site (www.norfolk.gov.uk/schoolorganisation).
During the consultation period there will be 5 public 'drop-in' events and the principles will also be discussed at the 5 area headteacher meetings and by Children's Services Overview and Scrutiny Panel. The consultation ends on 30th November, it is anticipated that the final set of principles will then be considered by the Norfolk Children's Trust for adoption. The outcome will inform our Local Authority BSF Strategy for Change, the further implementation of PCP and will underpin all future individual school projects. They will also form the basis of the second part of the Greater Norwich Growth Point consultation which will focus on those areas most affected by the growth proposals during the Spring Term 2010. These strategies will, when agreed, be submitted to the Secretary of State towards the end of next year.
Please encourage everyone to let us know what they think about these principles and any further suggestions.
