Disability Equality Schemes
National Strategies have recently published a useful leaflet which outlines the duty on all schools and settings to publish a Disability Equality Scheme. It provides a useful checklist which illustrates how schools and settings can demonstrate 'compliance' to this duty.
Kim Barber (Disability Co-ordinator) and Judith Carter (Senior Adviser Inclusion SEN/LDD) are attempting to monitor the completion and compliance of existing Disability Equality Schemes. As such all schools are asked to send a copy of their schemes to Kim Barber at the Terrapin, The Hewett School, Cecil Road, Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 2PL, or email a copy to kim.barber@norfolk.gov.uk.
As it is a requirement of the statutory codes of practice made under the Disability Discrimination Act, the school needs to ensure that it records the Governing Body is complying with the legislation in both section A and section C of the Ofsted Self Evaluation Form (SEF).
