Management Information Sheet
Local Leaders of Education Programme
Over the last 12 months, we have been developing and expanding our work in supporting schools in their improvement plans, and to offer a range of leadership development opportunities across the authority.
We have now been offered a further opportunity to work in partnership with the National College for School Leadership in the development of Local Leaders of Education (LLEs).
LLEs are successful headteachers who, following selection and training, work with a partner school to build capacity and raise attainment through a coaching and facilitative relationship with the partner headteacher.
Through this work, both schools will benefit from the sharing of good practice and time to focus on strategic issues. In addition, the LLE may offer support to the partner school through other members of their staff, who are able to "buddy up" with their equivalent in the other school, hence supporting learning and development throughout both schools.
The model has been successfully piloted by the National College and is now being offered to selected authorities as the first phase of a national expansion.
What is the offer?
We are looking to identify, recruit and train a number of LLEs from both phases (including from special schools) and pair them up with schools requesting or identified as benefiting from this type of support. To become a LLE, headteachers must meet national criteria which include a minimum of 3 years as a serving headteacher and a good rating overall in leadership and management at the most recent Ofsted.
The recruitment and training of LLEs will be during early January 2010 with deployments from early Spring term 2010.
A briefing is being held to enable you to find out more about how we are hoping to establish the LLE work, how to apply to become a LLE, or how a LLE might benefit you and your school on: 15th January 2010, 2pm at Norwich Professional Development Centre. Bookings can be made by visiting www.cpd.norfolk.gov.uk and using Course reference EPLH1.
We hope that you will be interested in this partnership opportunity to make a difference to the outcomes for children across our authority and that you will be able to join us at the briefing. Please do book a place as it may be difficult to accommodate you due to space restrictions.
Further information may be found on the National College's website at www.nationalcollege.org.uk.
