Apprenticeship Grants for Employers of Apprenticeships Aged 16 and 17
A new grant for employers has just been announced, to make it easier for employers to take on young people as apprentices. Norfolk County Council is keen to encourage as many schools as possible, to recruit apprentices.
Encouragement of greater numbers of public sector apprenticeships will help to ensure that all 16-18 year olds are involved in some form of training or education and this is a major aspiration for 14-19 Reform.
Over the next 10 weeks the National Apprenticeship Service will provide up to 5,000 Apprenticeship Grants for Employers of apprentices aged 16 and 17 years old with a value of £2,500. The £2,500 grant is in addition to the cost of training, which is already met by the National Apprenticeship Service. The Grant is available to employers to help support the cost of wages and who would not have otherwise taken on an apprentice.
Within the East of England we have been allocated 500 places under this scheme and support is available now. It is a short-term measure, which is open until the end of March 2010 - and is available for employers who are able to offer a job opportunity to an unemployed young person. The National Apprenticeship Service can also help you find a training provider to deliver the training programme and help you to recruit your apprentice.
If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please bear in mind that timescales are short. Grants will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, until the designated budget reaches its limit. You must employ the apprentice before their eighteenth birthday and before 31 March 2010.
