Statutory Safeguarding Training

Since September 2009 and the enhanced Ofsted focus on Safeguarding in Section 5 inspections, we have experienced a significant increase in the demand from schools across all of the statutory areas of training. The provision of training has historically been provided in three categories, the Group B training, Training for Senior Designated Professionals and the Multi-Agency Training. Each area has been delivered by a separate provider, each with their own booking procedures. This has not been easy for schools to access or ensure places on relevant courses within the timescales required. Therefore we have undertaken a review of the training provision and as from 1st April 2010 we are providing a 'one-stop shop' approach for schools to book onto safeguarding training courses. This approach will provide a simplified and consistent process for schools.

All future safeguarding courses will be available to be booked via Schools Development Management System (SDMS) of course booking that is used for all Norfolk schools' training. As from 1st April 2010 the safeguarding Group B, Senior Designated Professional and Multi-Agency courses will be advertised on this site and bookings can be made in the usual way.

To ensure that you are clear and understand the differences between:
  • Group B
  • Multi-Agency
  • Designated Professional
Please refer to the safeguarding website and management information sheets MI 160/09 and MI 228/09.

To enable us to meet the increased demand from schools in relation to the designated professional training, we have established a dedicated safeguarding team at The Norwich Professional Development Centre, this will be staffed by a full-time admin assistant, Amy Scott, and as from 19th April 2010 a safeguarding adviser, Kelly Waters. This team will be responsible for co-ordinating the delivery of the designated professional training and advice and support to individual schools and can be contacted on 01603-433276 Ext 189 or by emailing amy.scott@norfolk.gov.uk.

The changes outlined will provide schools with a more consistent service in relation to safeguarding, however, in the past when demand was at a much lower level, this provision has been provided at no cost. In the future, due to the increased demand and range of services of required, we will need to charge schools the same rate as for all other INSET provision, and this will be as follows:

    Full-day training will be £140
    Half-day training will be £78

These costs will apply to the following training activities:
  • Group B
  • Multi-Agency
  • Designated Professional
