Model Pay Policy for Schools

MI 165/09 gave the headline changes to the Teacher's Pay and Conditions Document 2009.

These changes have now been reflected in a revised Pay and Performance Management Policy (April 2010). Please click here for access to the revised policy documentation. You will note that the Policy is shown on Section 9, appendix C which reflects its slot in the Schools HR handbook.

We are commending adoption of the new model policy by the Governing Body and suggest that it is considered at the next available meeting of either the full Governing Body or if consideration has been delegated to the Staffing Committee then that committee can decide whether or not to adopt the policy.

However, prior to that, as with any policy document related to staff, it will be necessary to consult with all staff and take any comments into consideration when recommending adopting to the Governing Body/Staffing Committee. That said, the Policy document has been subject to Consultation with the County Secretaries of all the Teachers Unions and Unison.

The Policy has been subject to an Equalities Impact Assessment and it is suggested that a similar Assessment is undertaken in respect of any text added by the school.

The Policy is presented in MS Word format and should enable it to be amended to reflect decisions by the Governing Body where they have used their discretion, available in certain areas, to make a discreet policy.

There were also some other changes to related matters; the requirement for teachers to 'rarely cover' and changes to the threshold application arrangements. Links to advice on these areas are set out above but these have not been included in the Model Pay Policy.

For further advice on the changes, please contact Bob Hedley, HR Manager as above or on (01603) 222418. For a copy of any previous Pay Policy documents showing where amendments have been made, please contact Jackie Williamson on (01603) 223482.
