Governors Terms of Office Expiry Dates
We would like to ask all Clerks to Governing Bodies, Chairs of Governors and Head Teachers to undertake a review of the expiry dates for governors. We are aware that several schools will have governors whose term of expiry will happen over the summer holiday or shortly after.
It is important to note that when a term of office expires that person is no longer a governor until such time as he/she is reappointed or their position filled. Also Chairs of Governors cannot be appointed for a period longer than their term of office.
If you have vacancies you will need to do the following for:
Authority Governors (previously known as LA Governors) - Please liaise with Dawn Turner over the appointment or reappointment of the governor to gain County Councillor approval.
Community Governors - These need to be appointed or reappointed by the governing body at a formally convened meeting and minuted accordingly.
Foundation (Church) Governors - Please liaise with Angela Sixsmith at the Norwich Diocese over the appointment or reappointment or Jane Sansom for the Ely Diocese.
Foundation/Partnership (Other non Church) Governors - These need to be appointed or reappointed by the governing body at a formally convened meeting and minuted accordingly.
Parent Governors - The vacancy will need to be notified to all parents, asking for nominations. The previous incumbent cannot automatically be placed into the vacancy. However, if they wish, they can be nominated again. If necessary an election would need to take place.
Staff Governors - The vacancy will need to be notified to all staff, asking for nominations. The previous incumbent cannot automatically be placed into the vacancy. However, if they wish, they can be nominated again. If necessary an election would need to take place.
Once appointment or reappointment has been confirmed please complete the Acceptance (List 99) form which is available on our website at www.schools.norfolk.gov.uk (Go to Governors and then Resources). This form should be sent to Governor Services who will carry out the required checks and send out the appointment letter. Once the appointment letter has been sent to the individual they are able to undertake their governor's role.
