Important Update for Schools on New Online CRB Checking Service from Norfolk County Council
NCC is one of just a handful of organisations nationally who have made it into the Phase One rollout of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) E-bulk service. The service allows CRB checks to be carried out securely online and processed much more quickly than standard paper based checks.
We have been running a pilot programme to test the system. All applications for CRB checks that were received by the CRB Team on or after the 13 June 2010 have been processed electronically. The tests have also shown that the average completion time at present is around ten days from submission of the application, to receipt of the completed disclosure. In some cases fully completed CRB checks are back within a five day period.
We are now about to rollout the new system to enable schools to process their own CRB applications. In order to use this new online service every Headteacher in Norfolk will be registered to use the online system. To receive your registration please complete and sign the NCC Schools Agreement and return it to the CRB Team. Instructions and a return address are included in the agreement.
As Headteacher, you may nominate a minimum of one and a maximum of three Liaison Officers who can also be registered to use the system. They will then be able to process CRB applications themselves. A Liaison Officer could be a member of your Administration Team, a Business Manager or a Deputy Headteacher, but please bear in mind that they will be required to check the ID Documents of applicants and begin the electronic submission process. The processing of paper applications will cease after 21 July 2010.
To assist you in completing the Agreement please read the Guidance Notes for Applicants and the Guidance Notes for Liaison Officers.
Please complete, sign and return the agreement to us no later than 4pm on Wednesday 21 July 2010. Following receipt of the agreement your individual login details will be emailed to your Headteacher email address ready to use at the start of the September term.
Login details for each of the Liaison Officers will be sent directly to the email address that has been supplied for the individuals nominated. Once logged on follow the steps provided to 'Setup your online account now'. This will give you an overview of the system and provide you with online training.
As soon as you have your login details you will be able to use the new system and check the progress of all your current CRB applications.
Where a signed Agreement has not been received, we will not able to issue login details to that school. From September 2010 you will need a login in order to update your Single Central Record as required to pass Ofsted inspections.
Additional information and resources for the CRB process are available here.
If you have any questions about what you need to do please contact the CRB Team.
