School Support Staff Funding / Qualifications / CPD
The Local Authority has supported the training and development of school support staff providing advice, support and guidance and funding to up skill over 2000 staff over the last 4 years. Funding has been available to support the achievement of a full range of accredited qualifications from Induction through to Foundation Degree. We are pleased to advise schools of the LA's continued support for this sector of the workforce. It is our mission to improve the experience and outcomes for our children and young people by providing them with a well-trained workforce. All our training builds on the outcomes of our Children and Young Peoples Plan and uses national occupational standards in supporting teaching and learning to ensure first class support for schools, teachers, support staff, children and young people. The LA recognises the importance that support staff continue to have in supporting teachers to deliver a first class experience to all children and have developed a programme to reflect this and to promote a 'Whole School Workforce' team approach.
Our Promise
To shape the workforce by offering high quality training, delivered locally whenever possible. To commission training in accordance with the Children and Young Peoples plan and Every Child Matters agenda to improve outcomes for children and young people in our County to meet the challenges of the 21st century. To keep schools informed of any changes to the national agenda relating to the school workforce.
There has been a significant shift in the numbers and way support staff are deployed in schools and our programme of support is designed to reflect this. Our aim is to increase the skills, knowledge and understanding of all learners who engage, embedding an ethos of lifelong learning and professional development. We expect all learners and schools to commit fully to this investment.
Programme of support for 2010/11
We continue to support a full programme of accredited training and development designed to best meet the needs of the sector and reflect current government skills policies. Full details of this programme can be found on our website.
Funding
As a result of the government's decision to impose in year grant cuts on the council a full spending review is taking place. The impact on funded training will not be known until the end of July at which time we will update the website. The grant that supports training and assessment for Higher Level Teaching Assistants has been cut. We will honour those candidates currently in the system but cannot fund new candidates. We hope to continue to provide training and assessment preparation for this valued role and will update schools as soon as we have further information.
Training Schools
We work very closely with our training schools: Notre Dame High School, Aylsham High School, Lynn Grove High School and Springwood High School. Full details of what they can offer can be found on their websites and in School Workforce Remodelling Newsletter No 1.
CPD for Support Staff
A full programme of CPD is being developed for support staff which will include information on Induction, Training & Development, Career Progression, Case studies and examples of good practice. Further information will be published once completed.
For details of these and other opportunities in training and development for school support staff, please visit our website.
