Fees for Enhanced CRB checks

Fees for Enhanced CRB checks

We have now been advised by the Criminal Records Bureau that the fee for the enhanced CRB check will be increasing. This is due to recent Government changes to the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) resulting in the cost of an Enhanced CRB check needing to increase by £8 from 6 April 2011. All other fees will remain unchanged.

From 6 April 2011, the following fee levels will apply throughout the remainder of 2011/12.

  • Enhanced CRB check £44.00

  • CRB Checks for volunteers will continue to be free of charge.

Any applications accepted by the CRB before 6 April will be processed at the current fee of £36.00. Any applications submitted after this date will be processed at the new fee of £44.00.

The CRB acknowledge that any fee increase is not welcome news in the current climate and that many of you will have already set your budgets for the coming financial year. This increase and its timing is, however, linked directly to the Government's recent decision to scale back the VBS to more common sense levels and the resulting cancellation of the requirement to register with the Scheme.

Over the coming months the CRB will be working with the Home Office and the Independent Safeguarding Authority to develop proposals on how to implement the recommendations from the criminal records and VBS reviews and continue to maintain and enhance existing services and overall performance.

We will keep you up to date with any new developments as they happen.
