Norfolk's Replacement for the Ofsted Self-Evaluation Form (SEF)

The current Ofsted SEF site will be withdrawn with effect from 22nd July 2011. Schools will be unable to retrieve information from their existing SEF after 21st July. In addition a new Ofsted inspection Framework will come into place as from January 2012.

Within the new Framework the quality of school self-evaluation will remain an important element. In Norfolk we recognise the need to maintain the significant improvements that have been made in recent years as schools have made effective use of the SEF, to summarise the outcomes of their self-evaluation, to support improvement planning and to help with the process of inspection.

We have developed a Norfolk replacement for the Ofsted SEF which follows the existing Ofsted Framework headings and will be adapted to align with the new inspection Framework as from next January.

For the autumn term, the Norfolk SEF will be aligned to the existing Ofsted inspection Framework.

As soon as possible after the new Ofsted Framework is published, a new Norfolk SEF will be put on to the site to reflect the new Framework headings . This will exist alongside the current format of the SEF so that schools will be able transfer information at a time of their choosing.

All schools can access the Norfolk SEF replacement site. The site is in the current 'My School' site within 'Norfolk Schools' and is therefore accessed using the same username and password. Only those given this password will be able to access the school's SEF. This will ensure that confidentiality is maintained and that the SEF cannot be read or downloaded by any other party. The Norfolk SEF can be exported easily to a Microsoft Word document which can be shared with an OFSTED inspector. The attached guidance will help schools transfer their existing SEF text from the Ofsted site.

We are committed to add to and to update the Norfolk SEF replacement site to include SEF sections B and C. You will see there are already a number of useful documents to support effective school self evaluation, and we will add further useful resources as they become available.
