Department for Education Consultation on Proposed Changes to Admission Arrangements

The DfE has launched a consultation on proposed changes to admission arrangements and has published new draft admission and admission appeals codes as part of the consultation. The consultation closes on 19th August 2011.

The key change proposed relates to in-year admissions. The DfE are proposing that the Local Authority will no longer be required to co-ordinate in-year admissions. The proposal is that schools will manage all in year applications but will be required to notify the Local Authority of all applications received and the decision made in each case. Staff at the DfE have indicated that the changes are expected to be in place before the consultation for admission arrangements for 2013/14 starts in January 2012. It is possible that some proposals could be implemented at an earlier stage but this has not been clarified in the consultation.
