Management Information Sheet
Allocation of Attendance Improvement Officers time for schools
You will be aware that recently Children's Services has been subject to a restructuring process. As part of this activity there was a review of the operation and deployment of Attendance Improvement Officers (AIOs) to take account of the overall reduction in the establishment. In order to support schools inline with their identified need each school will be banded, based on its data, to identify the number of days per year it will receive from the AIO.
The data used is Educationacorn; numbers on roll; free school meals; overall attendance and persistent absence based on the Autumn and Spring terms. This data and allocation will be reviewed yearly.
High Schools will be placed in one of 3 bands:
Primary schools will also be placed in one of 3 bands:
Any work undertaken for a school will have to come from its allocated hours/days. All schools will have a Register Audit completed yearly.
Attendance Improvement Officer support to schools is expected to be by the use of 'Fast Track' to engage both school and the family to resolve attendance issues. AIO's will endeavour to attend all Fast Track meetings. If a school has too many cases for the allocated time, negotiation between the school and the AIO will occur to prioritise cases.
These arrangements are only for maintained schools, support to Academies or Free Schools will only be provided under an agreed contract.
