Guidance for Schools: Prevention of Forced Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation During Extended Visits Overseas
Please click here to find the guidance to schools on prevention of forced marriage and female genital mutilation. This is one of the areas that schools identified as being less knowledgeable about during the course of the Quality Assurance Team's Safeguarding in Education Audit. The Senior Designated Professional (SDP) should disseminate this guidance to all staff. It is particularly important that all staff who manage attendance are aware of this guidance and the implications for practice.

On-Line Training: Forced Marriage
In addition, the Forced Marriage Unit has designed a free e-learning training package to support professionals, including education staff that may have to deal with forced marriage in the course of their work. Using real life case studies, the training will give professionals a basic understanding of the key issues surrounding forced marriage, how cases can present and how to respond appropriately. It is recommended that the SDP and other staff who have a responsibility for managing safeguarding and school attendance access this training. This tool complements the multi-agency practice guidelines for professionals and should be read alongside the training.
