CLA Survey of Photocopying, Scanning and Digital/Web Site Re-Use - Spring Term 2012
This is to advise you that The Copyright Licensing Agency is planning to conduct a survey in selected Norfolk schools during the Spring term 2012.
The survey will enable CLA to establish what is being photocopied / scanned and / or digitally re-used, and in what quantity, so that your licence fee can be fairly re-distributed to authors, artists and publishers of CLA licensed material you are using. It should be noted that your Licence now includes enhanced rights: in addition to the existing photocopying and scanning permissions, it now provides all schools with the permission to re-use paid- for digital material and website content – this as from 1st October 2010.
In accordance with the current terms and conditions of the Licence, you are required, if requested, to participate fully in any such survey.
If your school is selected, you will receive an explanatory letter from CLA followed by a contact and visit from their staff who will explain the details of the survey. CLA is aware of teacher workload issues affecting all schools and have refined their procedure accordingly. Staff complete an extremely quick and simple recording procedure for photocopied and scanned material and / or follow a web based logging procedure to record re-use of digital material. All installation, collecting and collating is done by CLA staff. Note that the latter are not CRB checked but that they will have no direct contact with children and would expect to be escorted to any satellite photocopiers as appropriate.
The survey will begin as soon as possible after the start of the term and last for fifty working days only.
It should be noted that the survey is not a policing operation (although schools will want to ensure they have the appropriate licence). The re-distribution of fees is the sole purpose of the exercise.
The purpose of this MI Sheet is to give you advance notice of the survey.
Selected schools should direct any questions to either myself and/or Mike Gray the CLA Sector Coordinator for Schools on 01777 702721.
