HSE Improvement Notice Football Goalposts: Revised Guidance on Health and Safety in Secondary PE and School Sport Code of Practice
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued an Improvement Notice to the County Council following an incident last term at a Norfolk Primary school where a pupil was injured when a free standing football goalpost fell against him. HSE has required NCC to provide improved information to schools on the installation, maintenance and inspection of goal posts.
Therefore, the PE Code of Practice for secondary schools has been amended to provide greater detail on safe practice regarding goalposts.
A new Risk Assessment Checklist for PE has also been created to enable PE departments to demonstrate that they have consulted relevant information on the main risk areas contained in the afPE Safe Practice in PE document.
Headteachers and staff teaching PE must ensure that they are familiar with and working to this revised guidance.
