Local Leaders of Education - Recruitment and Training

The aim of the Local Leaders of Education Programme is to improve pupil outcomes through partnership working between schools and academies. Local Leaders of Education (LLEs) are successful headteachers and academy principals who work alongside other heads to drive forward improvements and build capacity to ensure that they can be sustained. Recently, the LLE designation was expanded to include the role of professional partner. This involves providing mentoring support to new heads in their first two years of headship.

The Local Authority works closely with the National College, Diocese and Teaching School to recruit, train and deploy successful headteachers to work with other schools.

The model has already proved successful in raising attainment, not only in Norfolk schools supported by LLEs, but also in the LLEs’ own schools. Please refer to ‘Local Impact’ click here to read about the difference it has made over the last academic year.

Who can apply?

There are currently thirty four accredited LLEs working within Norfolk. These are predominantly from primary and complex needs schools. In this application round we are keen to recruit more LLEs from good and outstanding schools in all phases but particularly from secondary schools where there is only one currently.

To become an LLE, serving headteachers must meet national criteria which include a minimum of 3 years as a serving headteacher and a good rating overall in leadership and management at their most recent inspection. Critically, their schools must be able to demonstrate high levels of pupil performance or continued improvement over the last three years and in addition be above the floor standard. Please refer to ‘Who can be a Local Leader?’ click here for the full selection criteria.
