Management Information Sheet
School to School Support
Theme: Enabling mainstream schools to access support from specialist providers in complex needs schools in relation to self-evaluation: SEN provision, meeting needs of individual learners.
Summary: This sheet describes the establishment of support opportunities from our consortium of complex needs schools, and explains how mainstream schools can access this support.
Content: In recent years, there have been a number of very successful pilot projects where specialist expertise from our complex needs schools has been utilised to provide support for individual learners in mainstream schools, and also to build capacity in mainstream schools to cater for specific special needs.
The local authority has now commissioned our consortium of Complex Needs Schools to establish a procedure to ensure that access to such support is possible for all mainstream schools. This has been entitled: The School to School Support Project. (S2S)
S2S aims to offer relevant and practical support, empower all stakeholders and develop effective, sustainable practice. Support may include: observations and recommendations in relation to pupils’ learning environments, curriculum or resources; developing skills, knowledge and confidence; training for all stakeholders; modelling strategies and approached to meet individual need.
How can I access support?
You can make an initial referral by going to: www.s2ssupport.co.uk
The project is administrated by Sheringham Woodfields school, who will process your referral and put you in contact with appropriate support, usually from your most local complex needs school, unless particular specialisms are required, or demands on capacity are uneven across the authority.
What will it cost?
The main part of the cost of support will be covered by the local authority’s commissioning of the work, but schools receiving support from the scheme will be asked to make a one-off payment of £25.00 per intervention to help with running costs.
