NQT Induction Important Information

NQT Manager

28 Norfolk schools are already experiencing the benefits of using the new online NQT Manager system. These schools will be able to complete the first assessment report on line. In order to make the whole induction process smoother and easier for us all we will be uploading copies of all NQT induction proformas and materials to this site. This means that everything Headteachers and Induction Mentors need will be located in one place. For this reason we would advise all schools to register for a password as soon as possible https://www.nqtmanager.com/default.aspx as detailed on MI Sheet 288/11.
Whilst only NQTs starting their induction from January 2012 can take advantage of the online registration and assessment facility at the moment, all schools will be able to access the key documents .

Spring Term Reports for those schools who registered NQTs in 2011

The deadline for the return of the end of term assessment reports is 23rd March.
Please ensure that the LA receives these on a timely basis. This is important so that the LA can discharge its statutory responsibilities and fulfil its monitoring and quality assurance function. On receipt, all reports are reviewed and where an NQT has been identified as under performing against the core standards, the school will be contacted to assess what additional support is required. Late reports may mean that help to overcome identified weakness is delayed. In turn this may impact on the opportunities for the NQT to improve within the normal induction period

Changes to contractual arrangements and notification of absences over 30 days

Please could all schools ensure that the LA is informed, as well as HR, when there are amendments made to :
  • Contractual arrangements

  • Absences over 30 days or more

  • If an NQT leaves a school

  • N.B .If an NQT starts their induction in a Norfolk school and then moves to a different Norfolk school, the new school must re-register them in order to continue their induction.

    NQT limit on short-term supply

Under current regulations there is a 16 month limit for NQTs to undertake short- term supply work without having completed induction. In effect, the 'clock starts ticking' as soon as short-term supply work commences and does not stop during periods when the teacher is not undertaking short-term supply work.

Extension of the short term supply limit

The LA may agree to extend the period beyond the 16 month limit, for a maximum of 12 months, if there are extenuating circumstances. The Local Authority makes these decisions on a case-by-case basis. The NQT will need to apply to Anne Roe (Acting NQT Adviser) in writing if they wish to apply for an extension to their supply eligibility. They should state:
  • their teacher reference number and date of QTS

  • the date they first undertook supply work

  • an outline of the extenuating circumstances

  • contact details

  • The LA will inform the NQT in writing of the decision on an extension. If an extension is given, its start and end dates will be stated. Any such extension will only apply to Norfolk schools.
