Collection of Data on the Take Up of School Lunches (Non-NORSE Schools Only)
You should have recently received a letter from School Food Trust explaining the intention and rationale behind the collection of comprehensive standardised data on the take up of school lunches, and encouraging you to participate in the data collection process.
The Department for Education’s Ministers have specifically asked the Trust to continue to collect this important data to help them evaluate progress in improving school meal provision. It is important for the DfE, and Norfolk County Council, in the present fiscal climate to evaluate the outcome of previous investment and make evidence based judgements about future investment. We recognise the links between healthy school food provision, child well-being, and better learning behaviour in schools and our local Public Health colleagues are particularly keen that we collect this data in order to help inform local decisions about targeting of resources. For these reasons, your support in completing the survey is actively encouraged.
To ensure that all forms of provision of school lunch at all schools covered by school food regulations are included in calculations of take up, Local Authorities are required to gather information from all schools. The information provided by schools will be sent by the Local Authority to the School Food Trust as part of our response to their annual survey at the end of the financial year.
Wherever possible we will obtain the information required from NORSE and will therefore need to contact only those schools NOT with NORSE. Any of these where the school lunch service is provided by a contractor might need to work with the contractor to provide the information. Please provide data for the 2011-2012 financial year (1st April 2011 to 31st March 2012), following the instructions on either the attached primary and special schools template or the secondary, academies and CTCs template.
Completed templates should be returned to the Information & Research Centre by the 18th May 2012. The data you provide will be confidential to the Local Authority and the School Food Trust. Data on the take up of school lunches will be reported at Local Authority level but not at individual school level.
