Academy Membership on the Norfolk Schools Forum

Changes to membership of the Norfolk Schools Forum have required the appointment of three Academy members. Two of these will be filled by Senior Leaders and one will be filled by a Governor. Relevant Norfolk Academies have been contacted about the changes. Two nominations have been received for the two Senior Leader positions and these have been duly elected unopposed. A ballot is required to elect the Academy Governor member. All Academy Governing Bodies can vote in the ballot, full details are given below.

Background
The Norfolk Schools Forum is an important statutory body which makes decisions on certain school funding issues and, at times, must be consulted by the Local Authority on other funding decisions. The Government's publication "School Funding Reform: Next steps Towards a Fairer System" requires amendments to the Schools Forum Regulations with effect from 1st September 2012. This has been considered by the Norfolk Schools Forum and further information can be found here. A paper was presented at the Norfolk County Council Cabinet meeting on 11th June 2012 where they adopted the proposed changes required to the membership of the Schools Forum. For full details see Norfolk County Council Cabinet minutes. There will also be a requirement from September 2012 for Forums to hold public meetings - as is the case with other council committees.

The changes see an increase in Academy membership from 1 to 3, one of whom will be a governor. The two Senior Leadership Academy elected members will be in post from 1st September 2012, they are

Lynn Comer, School Business Manager, Lynn Grove High School (Academy)
George Denby, Headteacher, Caister High School (Academy from 1st September 2012)

The overseeing of the election of the governor member has been delegated to the Norfolk Governors' Network (NGN). In MI Sheet 116/12 NGN asked for nominations for Academy governor representatives to fill the vacancy on the Norfolk Schools Forum. Two nominations have been received. A ballot will be held to elect a governor to fill the vacant post.

Action Required by Academy Governing Bodies - Vote for Academy Governor Member
The closing date for voting is Friday 27th July 2012.
All Academy Governing Body Chairs of Governors will be sent a ballot paper with details of the candidates and how to vote; each Governing Body is entitled to one vote.

We look forward to receiving your votes.
Only Academy Governing Bodies are eligible to vote for the election of Academy Governor members.
