Admissions to Specialist Resource Bases: Specialist Resource Base Admissions Panel

The way that admissions to Specialist Resource Bases (SRB) are made is changing from September 2012. Admissions will be decided by the Specialist Resource Base Admissions Panel. The Panel will meet once every half term on Wednesdays and will discuss admissions to all SRBs in Norfolk (except the Compass Centres and Hearing Impairment Units).

The decision to change the way in which SRB admissions are managed has been taken in order to ensure a countywide overview of SRBs admissions, consistency of decision-making and prioritisation of need across the county. A further benefit will be an efficiency gain by the separation of the business of the EYSEN Panel from SRB admissions, allowing more focussed time to be spent on each agenda.

The new SRB Admissions Panel will be an all-day meeting, dealing with each SRB specialism in turn with a timetabled agenda set out in advance. The Panel will be chaired by one of the three Operational Division Locality Coordinators on a rota basis.

Three venues will be used for the Panel Meetings on a termly rota basis. All three venues are easily accessible from the A47 corridor.

It is expected that the Teachers in Charge of each SRB will either attend in person for the whole of their SRB specialism section of the admissions meeting or make themselves available for a telephone conference call at the appropriate time. This option will also facilitate more efficient use of professional time as well as a potential for a reduction in the carbon footprint of the Panel members.

A further development is the requirement for all Requests for Support to be submitted via electronic means to the SRB mailbox to enable efficient circulation of documents prior to the meeting and reduce the heavy 'paper-based' demands of the admissions process.

Requests for Support must be submitted at least 2 weeks before the Admissions Panel Meeting in order to ensure that Panel members have time to read them before the meeting.

The SRB Admissions Panel Terms of Reference together with all the associated SRB documents can be found on the SRB section of the Norfolk Schools website.
