Norfolk Self Evaluation Form and New Ofsted Framework

Norfolk County Council provides a simple online School Self Evaluation Form within the MySchool section of our website.
The current Evaluation Framework (September 2012) and subsidiary guidance makes it clear that a brief summary of their self evaluation (4 pages) will be requested from schools on the first day of any inspection. A simple template is provided by Ofsted for this purpose.

Where schools anticipate an inspection early on in the Autumn Term, they are advised to:
  • Continue to make use of the current SEF tools, as it is sufficiently close to collate and summarise key information and evidence
  • Refer to the new Framework, School Handbook and subsidiary guidance published on the Ofsted website
  • Ensure they note key changes and new expectations including, but not limited to:
The need to listen to pupils read,
The increased emphasis on literacy across the curriculum,
The need for teachers to meet the new Teacher Standards,
The need to evidence the impact of teacher performance management on improvements to teaching and pupil outcomes,
The need to evidence challenge from the Governing Body,
The increased emphasis on learning and progress, including for different groups of pupils,
The need to evidence the value added through teaching.

We will update the Norfolk online SEF with associated support materials and are planning to release a new version during the second half of the Autumn Term.
Additional support is available from Norfolk Integrated Education Advisory Services who offer a range of courses as well as advisory support, both in relation to self-evaluation and school improvement planning.
