Management Information Sheet
Change to accessing School to School (s2s) and Key to Success
You will be aware from recent communications from the Department for Education that the method of access and password administration used for the following DfE systems will change from the 10th December:
School to School (S2S) and
Key to Success (KtS)
The present password management system will be replaced with a new system called "Secure Access". This will give users a single, secure point of entry to Departmental IT systems and will ensure that the data that they hold is much better protected. Secure Access will also allow users to manage usernames and passwords locally, for example retrieving forgotten usernames/re-setting forgotten passwords.
Notes of guidance on the initial registration, how to use the new Secure Access system and also Frequently Asked Questions are available on the Secure Access website.
Schools will need to undertake a 'one-off' process to register for Secure Access:
In order to initially access the Secure Access System you will require your S2S username and password. If you have forgotten this you should contact the Secure Access Helpdesk via the online Service Request Form.
You will also require a unique PIN number for the initial registration which can be retrieved by logging into the school's portal of Edubase. Details of how to retrieve your PIN are included on page 9 of the notes of guidance mentioned above. All schools in England are registered on Edubase and have a user account. Schools should ensure they have their Edubase login details to hand. If you do not have this information you can register/retrieve this information via the Login Page www.education.gov.uk/edubase and clicking 'Login' on the left hand side of the page.
Once you have completed the registration you will then have access to the Secure Access home page. This will list the systems available - if you select s2s or Key to Success from the home page, you will see that the systems look exactly the same as before.
Please note that none of these systems are maintained by the Local Authority - we have merely been asked to send a reminder to all schools on behalf of the DfE.
Updates regarding Secure Access will therefore be made on the Secure Access website and enquiries regarding Secure Access should be directed to the DfE helpdesk via the online Service Request form.
