Local leaders of education - recruitment and training

Background information
The positive impact of 'school to school' support is a growing reality. It features strongly in the government's strategy to link school self-improvement with collaboration. Norfolk has always been supportive of collaborative models of school leadership and improvement.

Most recently, the Local Authority has expanded opportunities for school to school support by working in partnership with the National College in the development of Local Leaders of Education (LLEs).

There are currently thirty four accredited LLEs in Norfolk primary, secondary and complex needs schools who have worked with the LA and Norfolk Teaching Schools to adapt the national programme to meet the local context.

Because the Norfolk model is successful the LA has been asked by the National College to recruit more LLEs from good and outstanding primary, complex needs and particularly secondary schools where there is currently less capacity.

How do I become an LLE?
LLEs are serving headteachers or academy principals with a minimum of three years' experience, and a proven track record of leadership and management. They lead schools or academies that achieve good results, are rated at least good by Ofsted and have experience of supporting other leaders with the aim of school improvement. To read the eligibility criteria in full follow this link: www.education.gov.uk.

When and how can I apply?
An application is made to the National College who provide accredited training for successful candidates before they can be deployed into schools. The current application window is now open and will close at midnight on 25 January 2013. To make an application follow this link: www.education.gov.uk.

For additional insights please contact the following who can also put you in touch with existing Local Leaders in Norfolk:
