Management Information Sheet
Workplace Pensions Reform - Auto enrolment
Update
What is auto enrolment?
This is part of new legislation intended to encourage everyone to plan for their retirement by saving for their pension. All employees meeting minimum age and earnings criteria will have to be automatically enrolled in a pension scheme by their employer.
When will the change take place?
The effective date for Norfolk County Council employees is 1 February 2013.
What happens next?
All employees will be receiving letters in the next week confirming how the changes will affect them. This is something that all employers are required to do by law.
Further information on auto enrolment was set out on MI Sheet 240/12, published in December, which should have been made available for all staff.
