Open Schools East 2013

We are aware there is a great deal of innovative and effective practice in schools in our region. We also know that school leaders are very interested in finding new and cost effective ways to share such approaches for improvement and value school-to-school support.
Therefore, the Partnership Advisers from Cambridgeshire, Central Bedfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk are extending the pilot from last year to collate and disseminate a range of case studies which will focus on examples of effective practice in specific areas (such as pedagogical approaches, pupil voice, parental engagement, use of Teaching Assistants, etc. which contribute to whole school improvement. These brief case studies will facilitate a series of professional development visits within our local authority and across the eastern region.

To relaunch the project and build on the successful practice from last summer we are organising an open-school fortnight from June 3 to June 14, which will allow headteachers and other colleagues to visit schools across the region. These professional development opportunities will enable participants to see the practice outlined in the case studies in action. It is envisaged that this would facilitate professional learning that leads to improved outcomes for pupils and students.

We are looking to facilitate and broker both the sharing of case studies and the professional development visits through the enhanced easy to use regional website, see www.openschoolseast.org for further details.

In addition to the open-school fortnight in June, the website is now open all year round and schools can request visits at times convenient to both parties to provide maximum flexibility. Please check the site for further details.

Your school could contribute to this exciting project by sharing a case study and later hosting a visit for colleagues from across the region. You may have aspects of highly effective or outstanding practice in your school which have been highlighted by an external agency such as Ofsted or through a quality mark. We have attached an example case study, some guidance materials and a template to this MI Sheet. We would be delighted to receive your contribution ideally by the end of March, with a final date of 19 April 2013.
