Revised Statutory Guidance- Working Together to Safeguard Children: A guide to inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children (March 2013)
On 21 March 2013, the Department for Education published a revised version of Working Together to Safeguard Children. The revised guidance will come into effect from 15 April 2013.
This revised guidance replaces Working Together to Safeguard Children (2010); The Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families (2000); and statutory guidance on making arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children under section 11 of the Children Act 2004 (2007).
It sets out how organisations and individuals, including schools and colleges, should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and how practitioners should conduct the assessment of children. The guidance streamlines previous guidance to clarify the responsibilities of professionals towards safeguarding children and strengthening the focus onto the needs of the child.
All schools and colleges should have regard to this revised guidance in conjunction with Safeguarding Children & Safer Recruitment in Education, and Dealing with allegations of abuse against teachers and other staff (October 2012) . All relevant policy documents should be revised to reflect the change in guidance.
