Keeping Children Safe in Education;- DFE Consultation
The Department for Education has launched a consultation in relation to the safeguarding requirements for schools that will run from 28 March to 20 June 2013.
The purpose of this consultation is to gather views on the Government's proposals to reform safeguarding requirements and guidance to schools and further education colleges by:
- issuing new safeguarding guidance to schools and further education colleges to replace the current Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education;
- removing the regulation which makes it a requirement for at least one member of a recruitment panel in a school to have undertaken training in safer recruitment approved by the Secretary of State.
The proposals in the consultation represent a significant change from the current arrangements in place. Whilst the Local Authority will be submitting a response to the consultation process, it is important that all schools read the consultation documents and we encourage you as individual schools to respond as appropriate. The consultation documents and response form can be accessed from the DfE website.
Safeguarding Children & Safer Recruitment in Education (2006) will remain statutory guidance for all schools and FE colleges until further notice.
