Consultation on proposed term dates 2014-2015 and 2015-2016
At the request of the Royal Norfolk Show President (2012-13) and his committee and on the basis of an analysis of attendance figures which appear to show that:
- more children come to the Show and benefit from it when they come in organised school groups
- there is a marked negative impact on school attendance on the Friday following the Thursday Show closure day
we are seeking views on whether we should not place a closure day on one of the Show days and instead place it on the first Monday in July.
This consultation is primarily for the academic year 2014-15 but would also apply in 2015-16. From 2015-16 we understand that new freedoms are likely to exist for all schools regarding the setting of term dates. However, it will remain desirable to have a Norfolk wide plan that gives schools a starting point for their own deliberations.
The proposed term dates for 2014/15 and for 2015/16 which have the support of the Eastern Region Term Dates Group are attached. Both calendars identify 190 teaching days (white) when schools must be open to pupils and on which home to school transport will be provided.
All days coloured orange or red are pupil holidays. Five of these days must be selected as staff training days and those which we suggest are shown in the table below. Alternatively schools may decide to disaggregate to twilight sessions.
