Changes to School Teachers' Pay - September 2013 Your school's pay policy

On 28 June, schools buying HR Services would have received a copy of the revised Model Pay Policy taking into account the proposed changes to the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2013.

The accompanying email set out the process schools must follow to adopt their pay policies for 2013/14.

The model policy also included details of the new Norfolk Advisory Pay Scales (NAPS) that are being proposed to help schools manage the impact of the change from national pay scales for teachers to pay ranges with minimum and maximum points and our HR and Payroll systems are being adapted to accommodate these pay scales.

However, we recognise that schools may decide to adopt alternative options. We are aiming to ensure a smooth transition to any new pay arrangements being introduced by schools with effect from September 2013. However, it is likely that some further development work may be necessary to our HR and Payroll systems and/or contract documentation to accommodate arrangements specific to your school. Please be aware we require six weeks' notice of changes to enable us to plan the development work into our schedule.

It is therefore very important that any school considering adopting alternatives to the Norfolk Advisory Pay Scales lets us have an early indication of this, even if its pay policy has yet to be formally adopted.

For schools purchasing a Payroll only service we will need instructions about any changes to salary payments to teachers as a result of the proposed changes to the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document 2013.

Could you please email: schoolsadmin@norfolk.gov.uk as soon as possible and preferably by the end of term.
