PE and Sports Grant Update:13/14 Academic Year

The Education Funding Agency (EFA) has revised the PE and Sports Grant allocations for the 2013/14 academic year.

Allocations for the academic year 2013/14 are calculated using the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6, and those age 5 in Year R, as recorded on January 2013 Census.

Schools with 17 or more eligible primary school pupils will receive £8,000 for the academic year 2013/14 (rather than £7,535 as previously notified), plus a top-up of £5 per eligible pupil.

Schools with 16 or fewer eligible primary school pupils will receive £500 per eligible pupil (rather than £475 as previously notified).

The funding will be allocated via download in two payments:

  • October'13, which has already been paid to schools and will not be revised, and,
  • April'14, which will be the remainder of the funding based on the revised allocation total.

Academies will receive their funding directly from the EFA.

The grant must be spent by maintained schools on improving the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of pupils registered at that school so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles.

Maintained schools must publish, on their website, information about their use of the PE and Sport Grant allocation by 4 April 2014. Schools should publish the amount of grant received; how it has been spent (or will be spent) and what impact the school has seen on pupils' PE and sport participation and attainment as a result, to help to ensure that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles.
