Service Pupil Premium funding
This is to remind all heads of schools with Service Children on role, of the need to register their service children’s status on the 2014 School Census (conducted on 16th Jan 14) so that the school and children will receive their full entitlement to the Service Pupil Premium (SPP4), currently £300 per pupil.
The £300 Service Pupil Premium is paid directly to schools for all pupils in Reception to Year 11 who have been flagged as a service child in the January Census in any year since 2011 (known as the SPP ‘Ever 4’ measure).
There has been a ‘PR campaign’ within the Services to encourage Service personnel to inform the Head Teacher of the school that their children attend of their child’s/children’s service pupil status before the spring school census. However, we are conscious that there are many Service families living and/or schooling their children in regions that may be some distance from their unit/base, or that the serving family member may be deployed at present, meaning that they may not have had the opportunity to inform their child’s/children’s school. It is also possible that their children attend a school which does not have many service pupils enrolled, so we are therefore raising awareness to ensure that both the school and service pupil(s) do not miss out on this valuable source of funding.
The Service Pupil Premium is provided by the Department for Education, to State Maintained Schools, Free Schools and Academies in England who have children of Regular Armed Forces personnel among their pupil population to provide additional (mainly pastoral) support. Please note that the information recorded by schools regarding children’s Service status is protected and the data regarding individual children is not shared outside the school.
