Revised Health and Safety Codes of Practice: Design and Technology; Art and Design; and Drama
Health and safety codes of practice for Design and Technology, Art and Design and Drama have all been updated.
The main principles behind each subject remain the same, although many minor changes have been made to reflect alterations in best practice and to make the documents shorter overall through signposting to CLEAPSS model risk assessments.
New Risk Assessment Checklists have been created for each subject, alongside updated guidance on risk assessment within the Codes of Practice, to enable headteachers and Heads of Department to demonstrate that they have consulted relevant information on the main risk areas and have put necessary controls in place.
Headteachers, Heads of Department and relevant teaching and support staff for these curriculum areas must ensure that they are familiar with and working to these updated Codes of Practice.
In particular, heads of Design and Technology should be clear on the requirements for health surveillance for technicians for noise and respiratory and skin conditions.
