Pension scheme changes

The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is changing in April. This will result in a change to how much pension some support staff pay each month as well as changes to their pension benefits. There will also be a change to how much employers contribute to the scheme.

Some key points and actions:

  • Scheme members received a booklet last September explaining the changes. Please make sure your support staff have read theirs. If they didn’t receive a booklet ask them to check Norfolk Pension Fund have their current address. They can do this online at www.norfolkpensionfund.org/Pages/Welcome
  • Some staff (mainly part time workers) will pay less. Others (mainly higher paid staff or people who work a lot of additional hours or overtime) will pay more as the contribution rates and definition of what pay is pensionable have changed. There may be an impact on your school budget. Contact your finance support officer if you need advice
  • Your payroll provider will be preparing for the changes. At NCC we are working closely with our payroll system provider to make sure necessary developments to the system are ready for April. This is challenging because the final regulations have not yet been agreed but we will keep in touch with schools as things progress
  • The Norfolk Pension Fund team are visiting locations across the county in March and April to explain how the new scheme works. All scheme members recently received an invite by post.
