National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership (NPQML) - Targeted Scholarships: Information for Participants 2014/2015

Targeted Scholarships are in addition to the scholarships already available for National Professional Qualifications. Further information about scholarships is available on licensee websites. The names of licensees in the East region and their web addresses are listed below.

To support the identification and development of talented middle leaders who aspire to a next stage promotion, NCTL will award a number of targeted scholarships for NPQML in the East region. These will be worth £900 and will be deducted from the fee payable to enrol on NPQML. Scholarships will be awarded to successful applicants who can demonstrate they meet the essential criteria.

Essential Criteria:
  • Meets the broad acceptance criteria for NPQML as set out on National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) and licensees websites - see web addresses below
  • Has the potential, talent and serious intent to seek a promotion to senior leadership within 2 years
  • Is a middle leader in a primary, small, faith, special or coastal school.

NCTL in the East region has also identified the following desirable criteria and is seeking to provide scholarships for applicants who demonstrate one or more of the desirable criteria.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Has at least one year's experience in post as a middle leader
  • Is a middle leader in a school in an Ofsted category (RI or SM)
  • Works in a school that serves the coastal regions of Great Yarmouth / Lowestoft or Clacton / Tendering
  • Is a middle leader in a nursery school
  • Is from a BME background
  • Is registered disabled.

Should there be a high level of interest, priority will be given to applicants from a school where middle leadership has been identified as an area for improvement in the most recent Ofsted inspection.

Please Note: In order to be eligible for a targeted scholarship, applicants must meet the essential criteria. If a high number of applications are received, applicants demonstrating one or more of the desirable criteria will be prioritised.
