Finance training and development section of the RAG Matrix
The training section will still continue under the current format but schools will now be rated on termly basis. This however will not affect the schools overall RAG rating for the summer and autumn terms, but will be taken into account when the spring term RAG report is issued.
For the summer and autumn terms, a rating will still be issued but this will act as a guide to inform schools of the training that has been undertaken and requirements for the remainder of the financial year.
An update was also approved relating to governors attendance at tutor-led courses or completion of e-learning courses. If more than 1 governor completes the same course from the same school, this will count more than once when taking account of the number of refreshers completed for that school. (Previously, if more than 1 governor had attended the same course this would have only counted as one refresher)
In the longer term, we will be looking at making other changes to this section of the RAG report. Whilst trying to make sure all staff members and governors with financial management responsibility have the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake their role effectively and to form a link to the RAG matrix, we appreciate the system does need refining.
We welcome comments into the development of this process and would encourage representatives from associated bodies (NPHA, NSEL, NASSH, NGN) to forward any suggestions and queries to Martin Oswick, Finance Team Leader (Schools Support), via e-mail.
