High Needs Funding for students in School Sixth Forms

The County Council proposed to allocate funding to school sixth forms for high needs students through the FE Panel process from September 2014. This would bring school sixth forms in line with the further education sector (eg colleges and training providers).

The LDD Funding Sub-Group and the Heads of Sixth Form Group were consulted about this proposal to ensure that there was broad agreement to these changes being implemented.

To be clear, a high needs funded student is one with support costs over £6k. Any student costing less than £6k is not classed as high needs and therefore should be funded out of the school's own disadvantage funding budget.

This MI sheet therefore seeks to communicate these changes to your school and provide information about where to find the following associated documentation:

  • Post 16 High Needs Funding Panel Mainstream School Sixth Form Applications - Terms of Reference and Procedure
  • Appendix 1 - Top-Up Request form
  • Appendix 2 - Guidance
These documents can be downloaded from www.helpyouchoose.org in the 'Advisers and Teachers' section or in the Norfolk Schools WebsiteThis means that you should make an application for high needs funding for any student in your school sixth form for 2014/15 as soon as possible between their enrolment in September and the cut off date of the 22nd October 2014.
