2014/15 Energy Cost Transfer for Universal Infant Free School Meals
Following the introduction of Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) there is a need to ensure that schools that are cooking additional meals on behalf of other schools are compensated for their extra energy costs.
As a result, the Schools Finance team will process energy charge transfers between kitchens and dining centres towards the end of the 2014/15 Financial year (it is anticipated that these will be journalled for maintained schools in February 2015).
For additional meals being supplied by or to an academy, the providing academy or school may make their own arrangements in respect of additional energy charges (i.e. raise an invoice), as the local authority can not journal these.
The methodology used by the local authority to calculate the additional energy cost transfer in respect of UIFSM between schools in 2014/15 will be:
Energy Cost transfer = (13.4p x (A – B) x 124) where
A = Dining centre’s average number of cooked meals per day from October 2014 and January 2015 Census days
B = Average cooked meals per day from 2013/14 academic year meal data
124 = No. of catering days September 2014 - March 2015
