Changes to Ofsted Section 5 Inspection Framework Guidance

From September 2014 there are now just 3 guidance documents:

Key Changes

While there is no fundamental change to inspection methodology inspectors will:

  • Make graded judgements for early years and sixth form provision.
  • No longer record on evidence forms a grade on the quality of teaching for individual lesson observations.
  • Pay even greater attention to a school’s curriculum to ensure it is appropriately broad and balanced to help prepare young people for life in modern Britain.

Guidance has also been revised to support Inspectors in making judgements following the phased removal of National Curriculum levels from September 2014.

Ofsted’s stated policy is that it has no preferred teaching style; it is up to the classroom teacher to determine how they should teach.

There is clear guidance for Inspectors on the duties and responsibilities of school governors (Inspection Handbook pages 47-48).
