Management Information Sheet
Schools Staff Well-Being Programme
The schools well-being programme has been in place since 1999 with over 400 schools participating in it. As was stated in MI Sheet 153/14, the schools well-being programme is now a traded service, and changes have taken place to how the programme will operate.
Who will provide it?
The service will be provided by NCC Well-Being Officers who have been providing a similar service for NCC staff since 2008. The Well-Being Officers have had training and experience in restorative justice, motivational interviewing, coaching, dispute resolution and change management. These skills, and their in-depth understanding of the HSE stress management standards, have made them competent in providing analysis and support in relation to staff well-being.
What will be provided?
There are 2 options, depending on the size and needs of the school.
Option 1 (recommended for schools with up to 30 employees):
- Training for a member of staff to become a well being facilitator.
- Access to a confidential questionnaire, with weekly updates on the progress.
- A report on the outcome of the questionnaire.
- Advice regarding taking action on results of the questionnaire.
- 3 month follow-up regarding progress of the action plan.
- Termly well-being newsletters.
Option 2 (recommended for schools with over 30 employees):
- Training for up to 3 members of staff to become well-being facilitators.
- Access to a confidential questionnaire, with weekly updates on the progress.
- A separate report for up to 3 staff groups (e.g. teaching staff, support staff, and ancillary staff), as well as an overall report.
- Advice on developing an action plan to address the results of the questionnaire.
- 3 month follow-up regarding progress of the action plan.
- Termly well-being newsletters.
Regardless of the option chosen, the type of report received following the questionnaire will depend on the responses: -
- Low number of areas of concern: A basic report will be provided, giving the scores for the different questions and how they differ from the average scores for all schools taking part in the programme, as well as a summary of free-text comments.
- Medium number of areas of concern: In addition to above, a summary report, exploring suggestions for improvement.
- High areas of concern: In addition to above, a follow-up questionnaire after 12 months to assess the impact of the action plan, and to provide further direction to improve staff well-being.
What will the service cost?
The service can be purchased for 2 years, as follows: -
- Option 1: £500 (in 2 annual instalments of £250)
- Option 2: £1000 (in 2 annual instalments of £500)
How do I buy into the service?
All schools who have previously participated in the well-being programme will be contacted prior to the due date of their next questionnaire. However, if you wish to register your interest now, please send an email (using the head@ address) well-being@norfolk.gov.uk stating which option you would like to purchase.
