Prohibition Orders

Further to MI Sheets 121/14 and 130/14, it has become apparent that some schools are not currently able to evidence that Prohibition Order checks have been undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements. Since 1st September 2013, it has been a requirement that all teachers employed by the school must undergo a Prohibition Order check via the Employer Access Online Service. This must be done as part of the pre-employment checking process and the check must be evidenced on the school's single central record.

A Prohibition Order check ensures the teacher is not prohibited from teaching; it is different to the barred list check operated by the Disclosure & Barring Service.

To undertake Prohibition Order checks, schools must register with the Employer Access Online Service. This is a free service that enables employers and potential employers to view the record of any teacher with qualified teacher status or any teacher with an active restriction. If a school has not already registered to use the service they should call Employer Access Online on 0300 790 0225 to subscribe.

Further DfE guidance on this can be accessed here.

The template 'F112a Single central record' on Schools' PeopleNet, was updated during the Summer Term 2014 to reflect this requirement.
