Children in Performances

This is to inform schools that the Children (Performances and Activities) (England) Regulations 2014 came into force on 6th February. This revokes and replaces the Children (Performances) Regulations 1968.

Children do not need a performance licence to perform on four days or less in a six month period but the Local Authority still requests notification. Once the four days have occurred then a licence application must be made to the Local Authority (childemployment@norfolk.gov.uk)

For schools the new regulations still require written documentation from the Headteacher to give approval that taking part in such an activity, whether it is an entertainment production, modelling assignment or sporting event will not be detrimental to the child's education. Without this approval a licence cannot be issued.

It is worth noting that a change in the regulations means that any child who is aged five years old and above can now take part in a performance during the hours 7am -11pm.

There have been no changes made to child employment legislation so the latest a child of statutory school age can work is still 7pm.
