Norfolk supply Teacher Register - pre-employment checks

We have recently received requests from schools asking for the details of the Norfolk Supply Teachers Register pre-employment policy.

It is the policy of Norfolk County Council Supply Team that all Teachers registered with us have had all the necessary pre-employment checks undertaken to enable them to work in Norfolk Schools.

We continue to monitor our supply teachers whilst they are on the register, and if a teacher has a break in service with the Authority of three months or more, the teacher would need to complete a further DBS check.

It is the responsibility of the supply teacher to make sure a three month break does not occur. If a break does occur the teacher would be required to complete and pay for a new DBS application if they wished to continue being placed on the Supply Register. The three month period includes all school holidays as well as the month of August.

We are the main provider of supply teachers to Norfolk Schools and our Supply Teaching Service supports over 450 schools for all their staffing needs, from same day to long term cover e.g. maternity.

This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

If you are contacting teachers directly and are unsure if their checks are up to date, before booking them we would advise that you contact the Supply Team to confirm they are cleared and are on the Norfolk Supply Teachers Register.
