Management Information Sheet
Minibus category and driving licence changes information
Information to schools purchasing new minibus.
Some new minibuses are being manufactured with 18 passenger seats rather than 17. Minibuses purchased with 18 seats cannot be driven on a D1 category and puts this vehicle into the category D (coach/bus).
Schools purchasing a new minibus are being advised to check that the vehicle has 17 seats and not 18.
Drivers licence changes:
From 8 June the paper counterpart driving licence became invalid. The counterpart holds endorsement details (points) and instead, this is information is now accessible online. The licence holder can share their online licence information with managers by following the ‘share licence information’ section on the following website: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence.
This change does not impact on the existing frequency that staff licences need to be checked by managers.
When drivers undertake minibus assessments, the driver will be asked to sign a disclaimer before they undertake the session confirming their endorsement information (the maximum number of penalty points a driver can have and still drive for the school is 7).
