National Living Wage

In his Summer Budget the Chancellor announced the introduction of a new National Living Wage of £7.20 an hour for the over 25s from next April. This will rise to £9 an hour by 2020.

The national minimum wage will still apply for those under 25, this is currently £6.50 for ages 21 and over. It will increase to £6.70 an hour in October.

The Local Government Services (Green Book) 2016-17 national pay negotiations are at an early stage and the outcome of these will apply to support staff in schools and some academies. Negotiators will no doubt take into consideration the new national living wage.

We are taking steps to be ready for implementation of the national living wage from April 2016. We are currently considering the cost impact on schools and academies that we provide an HR or finance service to and will provide you with information once this is available.
