Norfolk Admission Arrangements Consultation 2017/18
Norfolk County Council is consulting on proposed admission arrangements for Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools for 2017/18 and on the co-ordination schemes that will apply to all Norfolk Schools via our online consultation which can be accessed here. All appendices are accessible from this consultation and also are accessible via www.norfolk.gov.uk/admissions.
The consultation closes on 6 January 2016. Following the consultation the proposed admission arrangements will be referred to Children's Services Committee for determination at a meeting planned for 14 January 2016.
A summary of the main changes can be found below.
- No changes proposed to Admission Co-ordination and timetables for 2017/18
- Proposal to continue in-year co-ordination for Norfolk schools for 2017/18
- Consultation on the inclusion of priority for children of staff within oversubscription rules for Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools
Schools are strongly encouraged to alert parents to the consultation by including the details in their newsletter and on their website.
The Department for Education is planning to consult on changes to the statutory School Admissions code and this is expected to be launched in early 2016. A separate Management Information will be circulated to all schools and our Admission pages will be updated to highlight the key proposals and process for responding to the consultation.
Any statutory changes introduced by revisions to the School Admissions and School Admission Appeals Codes will be introduced in accordance with the legislation and these will also be publicised as soon as these are confirmed.
All other admission authorities (Voluntary Aided, Foundation and Trust schools and Academies and Free schools) are required to consult on any changes they wish to make to their admission arrangements. If no changes are made they must consult every 7 years. Consultation must be for a minimum of 8 weeks and must take place between for a minimum period of 6 weeks and must take place between 1 October and 31 January. Any changes to these schools existing policies must be detailed on the school's website inviting comments on the proposals.
The County Council will also display on School Finder on our website admission arrangements for own admission authority schools who wish to use this facility and schools can also comment on these proposals via School Finder.
