Action - Post-16 transport: Full Referrals Required
This MI Sheet is to confirm the new procedures for referring school leavers and post-16 students for support with post-16 transport. This includes support from the TITAN Buddy Service and bespoke transport.
We have received, from educational establishments' summaries, information regarding the students who may need support. This information is to allow us to recruit sufficient staff to support them throughout the summer and also for us to assess if they are attending the appropriate post-16 educational establishment.
We now need to receive the full referral form before we can provide post-16 transport or a place on the Summer Buddy Service. The referral form is attached along with information about the Summer Buddy Service. The responsibility for submitting the referral form is as follows:
- If the student has an EHCP or statement it is the responsibility of the EHCP Coordinator to complete the transport referral.
- If the student does not have an EHCP or statement it is the responsibility of the educational establishment to complete the transport referral.
Please note that referrals must be received before 1st May 2016. Any referral forms received after this date are not guaranteed a place on the Summer Buddy Service and this may delay the student's taxi, training or bus pass when they begin their course.
This form must be completed for any student entering post-16 education who may require any kind of transport support.
Only if you are certain a student will not be able to travel independently should they not be recommended for the TITAN Buddy Service. If, with training, they may at least partially be able to travel independently then they should be assessed by a Travel Trainer. Please be assured that in all cases where an eligible student is not a proficient independent traveller, bespoke transport will be provided.
Please be aware that post-16 transport is not free to families: a standard contribution must be paid to receive any transport support whether that is the standard bus pass or bespoke taxi transport. However the TITAN Buddy Service is free.
